Space Camp & Aviation Challenge Packet AREA 51, Leadership Reaction Course: Are you ready for some outdoor excitement that allows for personal achievement and team support? Want to climb, repel, slide and leap through the air to experience the exhilaration of accomplishing something you never thought you could? If so, the U.S. Space & Rocket Center® has the facility to help further your mission. Opening this summer, our new High Ropes Course is designed to push limits and expand opportunities. Located at the newly expanded AREA 51 - Leadership Reaction Course Complex in front of AVIATION CHALLENGE®, select program attendees (Corporate Programs, Educator Camps, 13-Day Programs) can experience The Climbing Tower and/or The Pole to test individual strengths and challenges while safely harnessed and supported by their team. Visible from south-side of the Bob Wallace and I-565 overpass, The Climbing Tower soars 42-feet and involves three very different experiences: Climbing Wall, Repel Platform and 380-foot Zip Line. Climbers can advance the steeply-inclined wall individually or tethered together in 2 to 3 person-groups and either repel off the platform or slide down the zip line to reach terra-firma. Relying on others for support, communication and attention to detail is critical for ultimate success. The Pole is an event that requires participants to climb a 32-foot pole, stand on the top and ultimately leap off the edge to reach a suspended rope. Whew! Makes the heart race! Think of the emotions you might feel while advancing the pole (yes, you can do this!), balancing on top of the pole (wow!), feet on the edge (gulp!), focusing on the objective (smile!)....you've come this far....your team is encouraging you from below.......can you reach for it? Can you trust your support network to help you achieve this task and not let you down? How many times have you experienced a similar scenario, on a different level, in the real world? Think you will never have a chance to jump off a cliff or rescue someone from a burning building? You may never know, but now you can simulate these and other situations in a safe and secure environment. And for those whom find it difficult to step off a curb, never mind buckle into a harness and climb 50 feet, well, there's a challenge for us too. To try it.
